My artwork is generally characterized by imagery inspired by the natural world, vibrant color, and meticulous attention to surface and detail of form. My latest works are from a series on clouds, which includes both archival pigment prints of clouds and painted reliefs. I have completed two public art mural commissions. Some of my earlier work in paintings, drawings and prints can also be found on this web site. ![]() |
My interest in the insights of chaos and complexity theories and how they can be seen operating in the natural world has influenced my work for a few years. Since 2007, I have been engaging with these concepts more directly via photographs I take of clouds (above and left). The relief at left is derived from one such photo. Via digital 3D imaging, I translated these ephemeral forms into a tangible, richly textured sculpture. Above is a photo hand-colored with pastel. What is Sculpture in the 21st Century? I printed some of the clouds on 44-inch paper at Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center, and have been hand-coloring them. See them here.
I was fortunate enough to attend the ISC Conference in London (and unfortunate enough to be among the travelers who had to wait an extra week to get home because of the Iceland volcano -- but that's another story). But at the instigation of the Washington Sculptors Group, I've written up an account of the conference, whose theme was, "What is sculpture in the 21st century?" Read it here.
