This limited edition 3D-printed sculpture of an Antarctic glacier is on view in an exhibition opening in Richmond, VA, on July 5 from 6 to 9 pm. It’s included in “Unbound13!,” Candela Books + Gallery’s annual survey of “40+ strong works representing a range of concepts…and applications of the photographic medium.” In this case, the photographic process is 3D scanning of the Canada Glacier in Antarctica’s Dry Valleys, using a process called photogrammetry. This mini version of the massive 60-foot-high glacier is just 14″ x 4″ x 4″ and hand-painted in acrylics and iridescent pigment to give it an icy glow. (The Center for Art + Environment at the Nevada Art Museum owns one of the other three sculptures in this edition.) I’ll be at the reception on the 5th — if you’re in the Richmond area, stop by and say hello. More info.
